The South Moravian Innovation Centre scores highly in the RegioStars 2014 competition

8 Aug. 2013 | CzechInvest | The European Commission has nominated the Innovation Park of the South Moravian Innovation Centre (referred to here by its Czech initials, “JIC”) among the six finalists in a competition to be named the most inspiring and most innovative project in Europe. JIC is one of the successful applicants for aid from the Operational Programme Enterprise and Innovation (OPEI).

South Moravian Innovation Centre in RegioStars 2014 competition

The final of the RegioStars 2014 competition will take place in October 2013. In the Smart Growth: SME Innovation category, in which JIC is competing, the jury also chose finalists from Poland, Great Britain, Portugal and Scandinavia. In the case of the Czech candidate, the European Commission recognises particularly the broad spectrum of services for start-up and innovative companies, thanks to which the region’s business base is strengthening, thus also increasing the region’s competitiveness. “The South Moravian Innovation Centre is the biggest and, primarily, the most comprehensive organisation of its kind in the Czech Republic,” the jury stated in its decision. The jury also emphasised the role of European structural funds, from which JIC has drawn support.

The centre currently has two open projects for which it has received support from OPEI, specifically from the Prosperity Programme. It will have the possibility to draw nearly CZK 19 million by the end of 2014.

Last year, CzechInvest awarded JIC Innovation Park the title of High-Tech Property of the Year 2011.
