18 Nov. 2013 | CzechInvest | Czechinvest registered the Czech Republic in the competition.

Awards FDI Destination of the Future

An international jury has announced the results of the competition organised by Site Selection magazine and the FDI Association in the course of the World Forum for Foreign Direct Investment 2013. The awards ceremony took place on 13 November 2013  at the Le Royal Meridien hotel in Shanghai. Aleš Červinka, a representative of the Czech Ministry of Industry and Trade in Shanghai, accepted the plaque for third place on behalf of the Czech Republic.

“We entered the Czech Republic in this competition mainly in order to gain valuable feedback and, at the same time, to make our country’s investment potential more visible to investors. We see the result of the competition as a positive signal that the Czech Republic is still perceived in the world as an interesting destination for major investments,” explains Marian Piecha, CEO of CzechInvest.

Birmingham was named the winner in the FDI Destination of the Future category, which not only countries but also regions and cities could enter. Second place was awarded to Colombia. In other categories, competitors from around the world battled for the awards for FDI Achievement of the Year, the Most Innovative FDI Focused Programme of the Year and FDI Policy of the Year.

The award winners also included the American chemicals producer Sasol North America Inc.; Frank Jensen, mayor of Copenhagen, Denmark; and the Berlin Business Location Centre, which is a project aimed at attracting investments to the German capital.

The objective of the three-day World Forum for Foreign Direct Investment 2013, which included the competition in which the Czech Republic ranked among the winners, was to bring together decision-makers from companies operating on the global market and representatives of organisations and governmental agencies from individual countries that are striving to gain the favour of foreign investors. China hosted this year’s forum from 11 to 13 November; the next edition of the event will take place in the United States in June 2014.
