Taiwanese electronics manufacturer Wistron expands operations in Brno
1 Sep. 2009 | CzechInvest | The Taiwanese electronics manufacturer Wistron is expanding production at the company’s Brno facility in order to keep pace with company growth and to ensure fulfilment of customers’ requirements. The company currently produces desktop PCs and servers at its facility at CTPark. From this year onward, its portfolio of products will be expanded with the addition of LCD monitors and televisions.
“Wistron is among the most significant employers in South Moravia, so its decision to expand is of course very welcomed news,” says Alexandra Rudyšarová, acting CEO of CzechInvest. “Furthermore, the company is doing business in a modern branch of industry and is thus investing considerable resources in training and new technologies at its Brno facility.”
"Three years ago we decided for the Czech Republic thanks to its excellent location, where we are close to our existing customers in the older member countries of the European Union, as well as to the fast growing markets in the east. Another reason was the availability of qualified workers,” explains Joseph Hsu, General Manager of Wistron Czech Republic.
“Our Brno operation is our only European manufacturing plant and plays a key role for us. A variety of factors were considered when selecting the Czech Republic including, of course, the ability to meet our customers’ requirements from this location. We are satisfied with our selection of Brno and feel this is a good location in which to continue our future expansion,” adds Hsu.
The company spent more than 12 months looking for the best site for its expansion. In the end, Wistron found the most suitable rental property within a three-minute walk from its original plant. Production at the new facility started on 1 June 2009. Wistron expects growth in the coming years will mean an ever stronger position in the Czech Republic, including greater capability of recruiting an increasing number of talented employees.
At its facility in Brno, Wistron uses state-of-the-art technologies and equipment in order to satisfy its customers’ demands for innovative services. Wistron purchases most of the components and services necessary for the facility’s operation locally. Wistron currently employs 500 people in the Czech Republic.
