Strojírna Oslavany named Brownfiels of the Year 2010

In 2010 Strojírna Oslavany spol. s r.o. converted the former Rosicko-Oslavany KUKLA mine into a modern centre for training human resources in the industrial, business and services sectors. The company received funding form the Operational Programme Enterprise and Innovation for the reconstruction project. The complex occupies an area of 4.5 hectares and 161 employees work there. For this successful brownfield regeneration the company won first place in the Brownfield of the Year category within the Business Property of the Year 2010 competition.  

Second place went to the Třanovice Rural Industrial Zone. This 29-hectar location is currently used by ten firms which have their own buildings there. An additional 25 business entities rent premises in the Kapplova Dvora Business Incubator. More than 400 new jobs have been created in the zone during its ten years in operation.

The third place winner was the Slavičín Centre for Information Technologies and Applied Informatics. The site of the former Vlárské strojíreny (machine works) is now used as a centre with the status of a science and technology park and technology-transfer centre in the Slavičín Industrial Complex. The centre was established with financial support from the European Union, specifically from the Prosperity Programme, which is part of the Operational Programme Enterprise and Innovation.

Business Property of the Year is a competition organised annually by CzechInvest and the Association for Foreign Investment in cooperation with the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Czech Republic. This year marked the eleventh anniversary of the event. The main partners of this year’s Business Property of the Year competition are ČEZ and ČSOB, while the partner is the Office Islands project of HOCHTIEF Development Czech Republic. Supporting partners are the QUIX agency and Zátiší Catering. Media support for the competition was provided by the weekly Euro, Czech Radio 1 – Radio Journal, Stavitel (Builder) and Project & Property magazines, and the monthlies Parlament – Vláda – Samospráva (Parliament – Government – Local Administration) and Development News.

The competing investment projects are evaluated by a committee composed of representatives of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs, the Association for Foreign Investment and CzechInvest. The celebratory announcement of the winners took place – together with the announcement of the results of the Investor of the Year 2010 competition – on Tuesday, 1 November 2011, at the Eco-Technical Museum in Prague.
