Steelcase opens model factory in Stříbro

Steelcase, a manufacturer of office furniture, officially opened its new factory in Stříbřo, near Plzeň, on 20 January 2015. The factory is one of only four Steelcase branches in the Europe, Middle East and Africa region. Mainly melamine containers will be produced at the facility.
Steelcase’s Czech branch is equipped with state-of-the-art technology, which the company intends to use as an example of best practice for its other factories. Operations at the new complex in Stříbřo first began in October last year. More than 150 people are currently employed there. That figure should increase to as many as 440 in the long-term horizon.
CzechInvest mediated on Steelcase’s behalf investment incentives in the form of tax relief in the maximum amount of 30% of eligible costs, which amounted to CZK 181 million. The company’s total investment will amount to CZK 646 million.
The celebratory opening of the new factory took place in the Panattoni Logistics Park and was attended by more than 180 guests from the ranks of the media, employees and members of the upper management of the company’s American headquarters and of local authorities. Jim Keane, global president and CEO of Steelcase, cut the ribbon to officially open the plant.
