Start-up entrepreneurs from across Central and Eastern Europe meet at Lucerna in Prague

The Startup World Cup & Summit welcomed everyone who has something in common with world of innovative start-up companies to Lucerna Palace on Tuesday, 17 October 2017. The conference arose from a combination of the Startup World Cup international conference and the purely Czech Startup Summit.

The main part of the programme took place under the name “Inspiration Zone” in the Grand Hall of Lucerna. Those appearing at the event include, for example, Andres De Leon, director of Hyperloop Transportation Technologies, and Frank Salzgeber, head of the Technology Transfer Programme office of the European Space Agency, whose ESA BIC Prague business incubator is in its second year of operation under CzechInvest. Start-ups participating in ESA BIC Prague are seeking uses for space technologies in everyday life.

More than three hundred start-ups form 28 Central and Eastern European countries faced off in the regional round of the Startup World Cup 2018 global competition. The ten best start-ups received the opportunity to present to the jury directly from the stage. The winner was the Polish start-up StethoMe, which is developing a smart household device for analysing childhood illnesses. The company advanced to the final round, which will be held in May 2018 in San Francisco, where it will compete for an investment in the value of USD 1 million.

Guests appearing in the “Interactive Zone” at Lucerna Music Bar included Karel Kučera, CEO of CzechInvest, which covers activities aimed at supporting start-ups in the Czech Republic. Within its programmes involving financing from EU structural funds, CzechInvest supports start-ups from their establishment to contact with potential investors.
