Revitalised Site in Břeclav Named Brownfield of the Year 2011
9 Nov. 2012 | CzechInvest, Ministry of Industry and Trade, AFI | Alca PLAST built a new facility for production of sanitation equipment on the site of a disused and dilapidated and complex.
Alca PLAST, s.r.o. has been doing business since 2005 on a site in Břeclav originally used for wood processing. The company gradually purchased all of the land plots in the complex in order to start revitalisation and the subsequent construction of a new production facility, which was completed in November 2011 and began trial operation the following month. Forty-nine jobs have also been created here. Thanks to this endeavour, Alca PLAST, s.r.o. has been awarded the title of Business Property of the Year 2011 in the Brownfield category.
Wassa s.r.o. won second place in this category for its Bělá production/warehouse facility, which was created through the renovation of the former complex of the Bělá agricultural cooperative near Turnov. Wassa s.r.o., which produces packaging materials here, built production and warehouse spaces, as well as shipping and administrative facilities and amenities for employees. The company thus created 87 new jobs, 63 of which within a sheltered workshop employing handicapped workers.
The third-place winner is a project involving the conversion of a site in Říčany u Prahy that had been unused since the 1990s into the modern industrial park Green Square Říčany. The project’s first phase covering an area of 25,000 m2 has been completed. More than 80% of the facilities, which are in the leasing and pre-leasing phase, have been revitalised and renovated.
The results of the Business Property of the Year 2011 competition were announced by CzechInvest and the Association for Foreign Investment in cooperation with the Ministry of Industry and Trade on Tuesday, 6 November 2012 at Veletržní palác in Prague. The decisive factors in determining the winners were the investment amount, type of investment and new jobs created by all companies that decided to occupy the given business property and, for example, the extent of social benefit of the given property. Besides representatives of business properties, awards were also presented to investors that have made the greatest contribution to the economic development of the Czech Republic.
CzechInvest has been attracting investors to the Czech Republic for twenty years and therefore this year the traditional Investor and Business Property of the Year competition bore the name Investor and Business Property of the Past Twenty years and awards were presented to the most important investor and business property of the past two decades.
The main partners of the event were the ČEZ Group and ČSOB. CTP Invest was the partner. The supporting partners were the National Gallery in Prague, the agencies Quix and AC&C, Zátiší group and the Association for Recognition of Quality. The media partners were Czech Radio, Ekonom weekly, Prague Leaders Magazine and the magazines Project & Property and Development News.
