Red Hat to develop software in Brno

9 Jan. 2007 | CzechInvest | The American company Red Hat, the leading provider of open source solutions, has established a development center in the Czech Republic.

With its 207 specialists, the Brno centre will become a globally significant branch of the company. Red Hat is known for its operating systems based on Linux, which at this time is the greatest competitor of the Windows operating system.

"Red Hat is pleased to choose Brno as a center of technological advancement for Red Hat solutions. We have chosen Brno because of the rich talent base," said Paul Cormier, Executive Vice President of Engineering at Red Hat. "We are excited about the great potential for innovation and collaboration as this team integrates with our global engineering organization."

The center will be located on leased premises measuring 3,000m2 in the vicinity of Masaryk University's Faculty of Informatics. Investment in the technical assessment of the building, purchase of information technologies and other equipment will exceed EUR 1.3 million.

"The company anticipates extensive cooperation with universities, especially with Masaryk University in Brno. Such cooperation will happen on many levels, from submission of dissertation work, through student internships in the company, to the possible creation of new departments at the faculty in cooperation with and at the instigation of Red Hat," says Tomas Hruda, CEO of CzechInvest.
