Up to 150 new jobs could be created thanks to an investment by Gemtek in Křimice, near Stříbro in the Tachov region, where the Taiwan-based company plans to produce components for broadband wireless networks, primarily for set-top boxes, and for after-sale service and maintenance. The investment in the new operation will reach CZK 20 million. Production should begin in April of this year.

“The Czech Republic won the Gemtek investment in the face of stiff competition from several other countries in the region,” says Alexandra Rudyšarová, acting CEO of CzechInvest. “We are primarily pleased that the company decided for Křimice, which lies only a few kilometres from Stříbro, which in the past year has suffered from a sharp increase in unemployment. Gemtek should start hiring the first new employees during February.”

“In the Czech Republic we are establishing our very first manufacturing plant outside of Taiwan, so this investment is extraordinarily important for us,” emphasises Longsong Lin, CEO of Gemtek. “We are also planning to cooperate intensively with the University of West Bohemia in Plzen so that we can make full use of local specialists. Our customers in Europe have higher requirements, and we must accommodate them and use our global logistics capacity. We look forward to operating in the Czech Republic for many years.”

Gemtek will operate in a rental facility in Křimice. “This is exactly in line with the current trend, where investors are increasingly more often choosing to rent instead of building new facilities on greenfield sites. The reason for this is that they can begin conducting business within only a few months and also save the high initial costs of constructing their own building,” adds Rudyšarová.

Gemtek decided for the Czech Republic only at the beginning of this year. Despite this, the company was able to begin installing all necessary technology thanks to its decision to use rental facilities. “Sustainable development is one of our basic values. We endeavour to be as considerate as possible to the environment, so we will use only state-of-the-art machines and equipment, and our Czech factory will operate with maximum efficiency,” adds Longsong Lin.
