Pharmaceuticals production revives Blansko

Thanks to this investment, the company will create new high-skilled jobs in the pharmaceuticals industry in a region primarily known for the production of machine tools.

“We want to build a modern plant in Blansko for the production of effective pharmaceuticals. Production will fulfil all technical and quality parameters that are the current global standards in the pharmaceuticals industry. The production of each of our products is preceded by years of research and development of suitable production methods, partly in order not to infringe the valid patents of the original producer, while at same time bringing something extra to patients.“The final drug form containing our pharmaceuticals will be sold in Europe and, in particular, on the American market,” says Petr Cermak, business manager at Synthon s.r.o. “The new, modern production capacity represents a unique opportunity for Synthon’s Blansko branch to bring relevant production of pharmaceutical products into the Czech Republic and thus ensure the company’s long-term, stable development, including an increase of high-skilled job opportunities in the region.”

Synthon received permission to produce drugs on a semi-industrial scale in Blansko in April this year. The company is planning the full completion of the plant’s conversion in 2009, at which time 25 to 30 highly-qualified workers should find employment.

“Mainly machine-tool firms and companies from related fields have operations in Blansko.Synthon’s expansion of pharmaceuticals production in this region therefore represents a welcome diversification and revitalization of the labour market,” says Patrik Reichl, director of CzechInvest’s regional office in Brno. “An added benefit is that Synthon will not undertake any construction on a greenfield, but will locate its production in an empty concrete structure, which will be structurally modified and furnished with the necessary equipment."

In addition to its main plant in Blansko, the company has two research and development centres here, one each in Prague and in Brno. Synthon acquired the production plant in Blansko in 2000, and since then has been engaged there in the production of special chemicals to meet the needs of the holding company. Altogether, this young, ambitious pharmaceuticals firm employs approximately 650 people in its branches worldwide, and its current turnover is around EUR 200 million.
