The food company Mondelez International announced today its intention to expand production in its Opava plant. The company is investing more than CZK 2 billion in tripling its production capacity and plans to hire at least 200 new employees. Oreo and belVita biscuits will be produced here.

“The investors’ willingness to expand their activities here is proof of the fact that the Czech Republic and the Moravia-Silesia region in particular provide a high-quality business environment, for example in the form of the country’s strategic location within the European market and its skilled workforce,” says outgoing Minister of Industry and Trade Jiri Cienciala.

“We began discussions with the company regarding the planned production expansion in late August, early September this year,” adds Marian Piecha, CEO of CzechInvest. “We eventually assisted the company in its negotiations with the Moravia-Silesia region and the city of Opava.”

Mondelez International plans to launch new production lines on the highest technological level in the second half of 2015. The products that will be produced here are intended primarily for the European market, though a significant share of them will be available domestically. Raw ingredients for production, such as flour and sugar, will be provided by Czech suppliers.
