Marian Piecha Named New CEO of CzechInvest

12 Aug. 2013 | CzechInvest, Ministry of Industry and Trade | CzechInvest has a new chief executive officer, Marian Piecha, who had previously served as the head of the innovative business and investment department at the Ministry of Industry and Trade.

“In Marian Piecha, a very experienced specialist who has demonstrated his qualities through his several years of work at the ministry, CzechInvest has gained a leader who will be a guarantee of the agency’s developing activities and its ever deeper involvement in business support,” said Minister of Industry and Trade Jiří Cienciala.

The agency’s new CEO took over the position on Friday after having successfully undergone a selection procedure. His primary task will involve effective use of structural funds, conclusion of the current programming period and preparation for the coming period in cooperation with the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MIT). His other tasks will include the completion of the merger of CzechInvest and CzechTrade and the resulting improvement of services for businesses, the seeking out of synergies between trade and investments and improvement of the environment for both domestic and foreign investors.

“Of course, I am pleased with my success in the selection procedure and I am looking forward to working at CzechInvest, which I see as an important element in the area of supporting economic growth by attracting new investors to the Czech Republic,” said the agency’s new CEO.

Ing. Marian Piecha, Ph.D., LLM previously worked at the MIT since 2005. Most recently, from 2008, he served as the head of the MIT’s Innovative Business and Investment Department, where he was responsible primarily for business support, financial tools, support for venture capital, and the programme to support technology centres and industrial zones. He also lectures at the University of Economics in Prague.

Mr. Piecha is a graduate of the Brno University of Technology and holds a doctorate from the Czech Technical University in Prague. He received his Master of Laws title from the University of New York in Prague. He speaks English and German. 

CzechInvest is a state contributory organisation subordinate to the MIT. The agency’s purpose is to strengthen the competitiveness of the Czech economy through support for small and medium-sized enterprises, business infrastructure and innovation, and by attracting to the Czech Republic foreign investments in the areas of manufacturing, business support services and technology centres.
