Johnson Controls Named Investor of the Year 2011

Johnson Controls began construction of its second production facility at the Triangle industrial zone near Žatec in May this year within the second phase of the company’s investment project. Series production of plastic vehicle-interior components began here in July. The company currently employs 170 people here; by 2014 that number should increase to as many as 350. This investment project, which the company initiated last year, brought victory to Johnson Controls in the Manufacturing Industry category of the Investor of the Year 2011 competition.

The second-place award in this category was presented to a major investor in the Central Bohemia region, LEGO Production, s.r.o., which has been operating in Kladno since 2000 and has been continually expanding its factory there during the intervening years. The company’s investment last year in the value of more than CZK 1.6 billion will create up to one thousand new jobs over the next two to three years.

Continental HT Tyres, s.r.o. took third place for its investment in the expansion of its existing factory for manufacturing tyres for passenger cars in the Zlín region. Thanks to the investment in the amount of more than CZK 2 billion, the company will create a total of 269 new jobs here over the next five years.

The results of the Investor of the Year 2011 competition were announced by CzechInvest and the Association for Foreign Investment in cooperation with the Ministry of Industry and Trade on Tuesday, 6 November 2012 at Veletržní palác in Prague. The decisive factors in determining the winners were the volume of the undertaken investment, its sectoral focus and anticipated number of newly created jobs in relation to the unemployment rate in the given region. Besides investors, awards were also presented to representatives of business properties that contributed to the economic development of the Czech Republic last year.

CzechInvest has been attracting investors to the Czech Republic for twenty years and therefore this year the traditional Investor and Business Property of the Year competition bore the name Investor and Business Property of the Past Twenty years and awards were presented to the most important investor and business property of the past two decades.

The main partners of the event were the ČEZ Group and ČSOB. CTP Invest was the partner. The supporting partners were the National Gallery in Prague, the agencies Quix and AC&C, Zátiší group and the Association for Recognition of Quality. The media partners were Czech Radio, Ekonom weekly, Prague Leaders Magazine and the magazines Project & Property and Development News.
