Investors discover the huge investment potential of the Moravia-Silesia region

3 Aug. 2006 | CzechInvest | The Moravia-Silesia region of the Czech Republic expects rapid development in the near future. The area boasts a modern technology background, industrial tradition and qualified workforce. It is not a coincidence that the carmaker Hyundai chose the region for its record investment. In coming years, Hyundai will invest between 800 million and 1 billion euros here and will create 3,000 jobs. The company should bring with it other Korean investors, such as its main suppliers.

Moravia-Silesia is well-prepared for investors, who can expect new industrial zones with developed infrastructure in the region. For example, the industrial zone in Mosnov recently welcomed its first investor, theGerman company Behr, which specialises in vehicle air-conditioning and engine-cooling products. The Behr Group intends to invest over EUR 17 million in Mosnov.

The region’s excellent technological level and educated workforce convinced the Danish companyBang & Olufsen to build, in cooperation with the Science & Technology Park in Ostrava-Poruba, its own technology centre in addition to its existing production plant. “Our goal was to build a truly top-notch enterprise with its own development. Therefore, we considered long and carefully before deciding to locate our only foreign affiliate in the Czech Republic, specifically in the Moravia-Silesia region,” says Michael Jensen, general director of the new plant. The presence of the Technical University of Ostrava and the number of graduates guarantee a sufficient supply of employees.

The strong interest of investors in the region is reflected in the fact that the 7th annual international Investment and Business Forum will be held in Ostrava on 19-20 September of this year. The forum will present offers of services for potential foreign investors. Part of the programme will be reserved for human resources development and the possibility of utilising resources from structural funds for this area. Another indispensable part of the forum will be reverse presentations, which represent a unique opportunity for investors to meet with local suppliers. In addition to investors and suppliers, top-level representatives of the state administration and local authorities will also participate in the forum.
