Investment Week: Advanced English a condition of employment at Ostrava IT centre

At the shared-services centre ofStora Enso Wood Products Ždírec s.r.o. in Ostrava, IT specialists develop software for all of the company’s branches throughout the world. In connection with Investment Week, the company welcomed a dozen students from the Secondary School of Teleinformatics in Ostrava to its open house on Tuesday, 17 June 2014. The branch manager, Marian Drozd, familiarised the students with the company and the various departments of the shared-services centre. The presentation also involved an employee from India who demonstrated the importance of English for all employees. Technicians at the centre are required to communicate daily in English with colleagues and partner firms in Finland, Sweden, Brazil, India, China and many other countries. Knowledge of this global language is thus one of the basic conditions of employment at the centre.
