Dixons Retail expanding its operation in Brno

25 Oct. 2011 | CzechInvest | Together with the Pixmania internet retailer, the company will create more than 150 new jobs.

The expansion of Dixons Retail involves its existing shared-services centre, where an additional 80 people will find work. The Pixmania internet retailer, which is also part of the Dixons Retail concern, will open a new central office for 14 European countries. A total of more than 150 jobs will thus be created. CzechInvest assisted with these investment projects.

“The Czech Republic is focusing on attracting and supporting technologically demanding investments. Therefore, I am pleased when companies that are already operating on our market decide to expand here. This is practical evidence that the Czech Republic offers an environment in which businesses based on innovations and on the skills and knowledge of employees can succeed,” says Minister of Industry and Trade Martin Kocourek.

“The investment of Dixons Retail confirms the fact that the Czech Republic is interesting for companies in the area of IT and software development. More than half of the projects mediated by CzechInvest in the first half of 2011 were in this sector,” explains Miroslav Křížek, CEO of CzechInvest, adding: “The South Moravia region is indisputably the centre of this sector in the Czech Republic.”

Dixons Retail has already relocated its Brno shared-services centre to larger premises and is now preparing to recruit new employees. Financial-management specialists and those interested in working in the customer-services department will find employment here. “We were excited by the high standard and professionalism of the work of our colleagues in the Czech Republic. In the shared-services centre we have succeeded in creating a truly dynamic and international working environment. These new premises will further help to provide such an environment and will support our plans for further expansion of our activities,” John Browett, general manager of Dixons Retail.

“Brno boasts a high level of workers with technical knowledge in the area of IT and language skills. Like our colleagues from Dixons Retail, we are glad that we possess working conditions that are on the world standard,” says Steve Rosenblum, director of Pixmania. Pixmania is one of the biggest e-shops in Europe. Its Brno branch employs mainly IT specialists. In Brno Pixmania will launch, among other things, the e-Merchant project, which will be built on the proven foundation of specialists in the area of IT development.

Dixons Retail is one of the leading European companies specialising in retail and services in the area of electronics.
