The thirteenth annual edition of the world’s biggest nanotechnology trade fair, nano tech 2014, took place in Tokyo during the waning days of January. For the fourth consecutive year, Czech representatives took part in the trade fair with support from CzechTrade, CzechInvest and the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Japan. The Special Award for the Czech pavilion was presented by the Japanese organisers to the Czech ambassador in Japan, Kateřina Fialková, and the president of Elmarco’s Japanese branch, Kaz Nomoto.

Besides Elmarco, which has operated a branch in Japan for six years, the Czech delegation at the trade fair also included representatives of CzechInvest, CzechTrade, the company SVCS Process Innovation s.r.o., the CLUTEX cluster, the Technical University of Liberty, and the Technology Centre of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic. They were able to present the successes of Czech nanotechnology thanks to support from the project titled Joint Participation in Specialised Exhibitions and Trade Fairs Abroad 2013-2014, which is financed from EU Structural Funds.

Ambassador Fialková considers participation in the trade fair to be an essential aspect of the Czech presence in Japan. “It has become not only an important means of economic diplomacy, but also a tool for presenting the Czech Republic as a country whose research and production contain outstanding scientific sectors,” says Ambassador Fialková. “That fact that we have managed to maintain the continuity of our participation since 2011 sends a clear signal about the importance and standing of the Czech Republic in the field of advanced technologies.”

“The participation of Czech representatives, who always show present in the best light at the nano tech trade fair, is slowly becoming a tradition,” says Ondřej Votruba, acting CEO of CzechInvest. “And because nanotechnology is among our priority sectors on which we focus special attention not only in the Czech Republic, but also worldwide, we will definitely be there again next year.”

The international nanotechnology exposition and conference nano tech 2014 took place in Tokyo, Japan, from 29 to 31 January. This year’s thirteenth annual edition of the event was focused on the “Life and Green” theme. The trade fair was attended by 638 exhibitors from 21 countries and welcomed 45,841 visitors during its three days.
