Czech radar company sold
23 Nov. 2006 | Frantisek Bouc / The Prague PostThe most formidable Czech military defensive tool - the Vera surveillance radar, which is the only system that can detect the "invisible" U.S. Stealth bomber - is now owned by Americans. U.S. surveillance and flight tracking developer Rannoch Corporation has taken over ERA, the Pardubice-based company that developed Vera. The deal took place in late October, but the daily Mlada fronta Dnes reported it Nov. 11.

KOS WIRE LTD to invest nearly a quarter of a billion euros in Lovosice
22 Nov. 2006 | CzechInvestThe Korean company KOS WIRE LTD, a member of the KOS GROUP, will build a new plant for the production of stainless-steel wire in the Cukrovar industrial zone in Lovosice. In three phases the company will gradually invest EUR 21,5 million and employ approximately 90 people.

GE Money already employs over 300 workers in Ostrava customer service centre

The company has invested over USD 4 million and plans to expand here in the future, thus becoming a significant employer in this region suffering from high unemployment.

Ingersoll Rand to have pan-European training centre in the Czech Republic
13 Nov. 2006 | CzechInvestIngersoll Rand has decided to build a new training centre for its Bobcat brand in Dobris, approximately 35 km south of Prague. This will replace the existing centre in Belgium and will be intended for training users from Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Investment in the expansion of the existing Dobris production plant will reach the amount USD 32 million. Up to 300 workers should find employment in the plant. Ingersoll Rand will thus have a comprehensive site in the Czech Republic which will enable production and training, as well as research and development in one location.

Czech Republic seeks way to resurrect old industrial sites
9 Nov. 2006 | CzechInvestDue to its long industrial tradition, the Czech Republic contains thousands of disused industrial, agricultural, military and mining sites, i.e. brownfields, that are gradually deteriorating and are often ecologically burdened. Nevertheless, there is a chance that new uses can be found for these sites.

The Bank will bestow to CzechInvest a new advisor that will contribute to the growth of investments from South Korea.

2 Nov. 2006 | CzechInvestHEADLINE NEWS FDI in the Czech Republic is highest of all new European Union members According to new Eurostat data, foreign direct investments (FDI) implemented in the Czech Republic last year were higher than investments implemented in any other new European Union member. Last year foreign investors spent EUR 8.8 billion in the Czech Republic while, for example, Slovakia received only EUR 1.7 billion in FDI. The World Investment Report 2006 released recently by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) also confirms these figures. The volume of long-term and strategic investments in the Czech economy doubled in comparison with the previous year. The Czech Republic is the only new EU member country to rank among the world’s top twenty FDI recipients.
