Aerotech of Klatovy Will Manufacture Parts for Rolls-Royce Aircraft Engines
17 Jun. 2013 | CzechInvest, Aerotech | The company is already delivering rocket components fot the European space programme.
At the beginning of this year Aerotech Czech manufactured the first batch of parts for Ariane 5 cargo rockets used by the European space programme. OHB Group, to which the Klatovy-based firm belongs, transferred production to Klatovy from the MT Aerospace Augsburg factory in Germany. Aerotech is now preparing to take over production of parts for Rolls-Royce aircraft engines from Rolls-Royce factories in Germany and Scotland. Thanks to this move, more than 30 high-skilled jobs will be created in the Klatovy region.
“In the end, the decision to transfer production came down to the available skilled workforce in the Czech Republic and the good logistical connection of the Klatovy factory to Aerotech’s Bavarian factory in Peissenberg,” explains Petr Očko, acting CEO of CzechInvest. “These projects are important especially due to their benefit for the development of the Czech aerospace industry.”
“We are transferring to Klatovy seventy percent of production of compressor components and turbines for Rolls-Royce engines intended for Airbuses; the remaining thirty percent and other finishing work will be handled by Aerotech Peissenberg,” says Aerotech Czech executive director Petr Malček. “First, in the course of June and July, we are installing new machines; we plan to start series production in late 2013, early 2014 after performing the necessary tests.”
Aerotech Czech has extensive experience with manufacturing components for the aerospace industry. Since 2005, when it was established as a subsidiary of the Aerotech Peissenberg, the company has been involved in the production of rotary components of jet engines for Rolls-Royce, Pratt & Whitney, SNECMA and MTU Aero Engines. In 2011 the Aerotech group was acquired by OHB Group, whose main activities are focused on the space industry. Earlier this year, the concern’s management transferred to Klatovy the assembly of aerodynamic cowlings of booster engines used with Ariane 5 rockets, which had previously been manufactured by MT Aerospace Augsburg. Aerotech Czech shipped the first batch of parts for Ariane 5 rockets in January this year.
